We are now only 9 months from the event so make sure you’re following the correct qualifying procedure in your country (contact your National Federation – see ITU website for details) to secure your place in the 2009 Gold Coast ITU Triathlon World Championships. Also don’t forget to start planning your trip to Oz…whether you're relaxing on sun-drenched beaches, trekking through ancient rainforest or snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, there's an experience waiting to become your treasured memory in Queensland.

The feature event of the festival with over 42 countries represented and our favourite Olympians present, this event alone is expected to attract more than 3,000 athletes from around the world participating in elite, Under 23, Junior, AWAD (Athletes with a Disability), and Age Group categories.
To participate in the ITU Triathlon World Championships (Olympic Distance) you must qualify through your National Federation. The event is open to Elite, Under 23, Junior, and Age Group athletes, along with Athletes with a Disability (AWAD). Queensland’s beautiful Gold Coast is located on the central east coast of Australia, around 80kms south of the capital city Brisbane. Renown for its clear and sunny weather, the Gold Coast boasts a massive 60km coastline and tropical hinterland encompassing many natural wetlands and rainforests. The Gold Coast region enjoys a subtropical climate and an average of 300 days sunshine a year - Spring: September to November 15-25oC / 59-77oF.
The Southport Broadwater Parkland event precinct on the Gold Coast is currently undergoing a $32million makeover to ensure the 2009 ITU Triathlon World Championships is a first class event. The Event Precinct is close to an abundant array of accommodation offering a wide range of self contained apartments, motels and hotels.
Airports
There are two airport options:
The Gold Coast Airport (also known as Coolangatta Airport)
Located approximately 20kms south of the Gold Coast centre, Coolangatta Airport offers a variety of international and domestic flights on a variety of carriers. For a full list of carriers and flights please visit www.goldcoastairport.com.au.
Brisbane International Airport
Located close to the state’s capital city and approximately 80kms North of the Gold Coast, Brisbane airport offers direct connections to 26 international and 39 domestic locations. Operating from both international and domestic terminals (with an interconnecting monorail) it is Queensland’s most prominent airport. For a full list of carriers and locations visit: www.bne.com.au.

An extensive list of accommodation options within close proximity to the event precinct has been sourced. Please refer to www.worldtriathlongoldcoast.com/visitor_info_accom.html. The LOC have secured preferred rates that are only available when booking directly through the LOC. Many National teams have already taken advantage of the accommodation deals on offer and availability in close proximity to the event precinct is limited. It is recommended accommodation is booked well in advance.
If you have been following the current world’s economic situation you will know that the Australian dollar is quite low at the moment and therefore any international travelers should be taking advantage of the situation and booking as soon as you can! For the current dollar conversions check out www.xe.com. On the 2nd Jan 09 $100.00 AUD was equal to approximately $70 USD, €50 Euro, or ₤47 GBP.
