| Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series |
The southern coastal city of Tongyeong, Korea hosted the inaugural Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series, which includes seven global cities before the grand final on Australia's Gold Coast in September.
With live TV broadcast beamed around the world athletes put on a wonderful display of tough racing in both the men’s and women’s races.
In the women’s race it came down to a battle between the Australian women - Olympic champion Emma Snowsill and Beijing bronze medallist Emma Moffatt. Moffatt had been at the head of the field during the swim and bike then got the jump on the them heading into the run, Snowsill caught her on lap two and the pair ran shoulder to shoulder until the final lap when Snowsill cleared out to win round one of the series, Moffatt second from Juri Ide rounding out the podium.
It was a satisfying win for the Aussie who did it tough, not yet in peak shape as she builds momentum throughout the series looking to claim a fourth world title at the final event on the Gold Coast in September.
The men’s race produced the most exciting sprint finish ever seen with Australia’s Brad Kahlefeldt just being pipped by a mere centimeter from New Zealand’s Bevan Docherty. Despite the pair both given the same finish time a review of the photo finish gave the win to Docherty.
The series continues on May 21 in Madrid. |
